Our site
Q: Who operates your site?
A: Drygoods Design Online is operated by Drygoods Design, LLC - a one-woman, one-mom operation based in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Wash. The online store is hosted by Shopify.
Q: I really like your site design, where can I get the template or make one of my own?
A: While the photos and content are solely produced and owned by Drygoods Design, LLC; the site template is available for purchase through Shopify, however Drygoods Design has customized it for a specific look and feel.
Q: I see "from $x.oo" what does that mean?
A: Due to inconsistencies in various web browsers, we have put the word 'from' in front of the lowest available price so that our customers are not seeing the fat quarter price as the yard price.
Q: I see you have New Arrivals listed, what makes a fabric or a product a new arrival?
A: With the goal to make sure anyone visits Drygoods Design Online can find the newest fabrics arriving in stock, our goal for the New Arrivals collection is to showcase any fabrics that have been in stock two weeks or less.
Q: I am looking for ideas and other resources for an upcoming project, where do I go on your site?
A: There are a couple of different places you can visit on Drygoods Design Online. We have a page dedicated to resources for your sewing, crafting and inspiration needs. On the Resources page you’ll find links to helpful books, background information on our vendors and fabric designers and much more. On the Tips & Tricks blog, you’ll find links to tutorials from some of my favorite people in the industry as well as from our own community of contributors (coming in 2012). You can also visit the Drygoods Design blog that features more content related to the industry, inspiration and my line of handmade goods, Bread & Salt.
Q: I am interested in being a contributor to your Tips & Tricks blog - how do I become one?
A: Drygoods Design Online is always looking for fun, talented and knowledgeable contributors. If you’re interested and have some examples of your projects, be it by way of a blog or video, please send an email to hello@drygoodsdesignonline.com
Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. We work with PayPal but you can also use Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, without registering with PayPal.
Q. I am confused, it's sending me through PayPal but I haven't selected shipping or entered a discount code, what do I do?
A. Don't worry! Once you've entered your shipping and payment information you'll be routed back to our site where you can enter any applicable discount codes as well as select your choice for shipping, if eligible.
Fabrics
Q. I found fabric I love but I am not sure how it looks in person, is there a way to be sure?
A. So happy you found something you like! You can always order a swatch and whenever possible, I'm happy to send an additional photo or two your way so you can get a better sense of the fabric’s true-to-life characteristics. If there is a difference between the online image and the fabric, I always try to add an image or make note that the color swatch provided by the manufacturer isn’t true to life. My number one goal is to make buying online easy and helpful!
Q. Where do you get your fabrics?
A: Drygoods Design Online selects only the highest quality of fabrics from top companies. We currently stock more than 20 different lines including: Adornit, Alexander Henry, Andover, Anthology, Birch Organic Fabrics, Clothworks, Cloud9 Organic Fabrics, Dear Stella, Echino, Free Spirit, Kokka, Michael Miller, Moda, Oilcloth International, P & B Textiles, Premier Prints, Riley Blake Designs, Rowan/Westminster, Timeless Treasures, Windham and have more coming in from Kei and Yuwa.
Q: Are all the fabrics you sell machine washable?
A: While most of the quilting and home decor fabrics are machine washable, please make note of special care instructions included on the product page. Certain fabrics like the laminated cottons and oilcloth need only be wiped clean and are not suggested to be cleaned in a washer, however they certainly can be.
Q: What are the widths of your fabrics?
A: Standard widths for quilting and midweight cottons are 44” and home decor is 54”. Any exceptions to these widths are noted in the product description section for each fabric, in particular some of the oilcloth fabrics as well as Japanese imports.
Q: How long is a yard? Do you cut in continuous lengths?
A: A yard of fabric is 36 inches long. All fabrics are cut in continuous yardage, unless otherwise requested in an email before or after you submit an order (if after, please include your order number).
Q: Do you offer fat quarter selections?
A: Yes, we do in all quilting and midweight cottons. Home decor fabrics are by the yard and half yard. We also have select fabrics in our precut and bundle section.
Q: I would like to buy a particular fabric by the half-yard, is that possible?
A: Yes, it is! All quilting weight cottons are available from yard to fat quarters. Home decor and outdoor fabrics are available in yard and half yard lengths.
Photos/Content

A: The photos used on our blogs are either taken by Drygoods Design and/or our contributors or cited from the original source. If you feel that we’ve used an image in error, incorrectly or haven’t tracked down the original source accurately, please direct all your questions to hello@drygoodsdesignonline.com
Q: What about the content on your site?
A: With respect to the written content, it is created and owned by Drygoods Design. On the product pages we often try to add some flavor to what’s provided, if anything, by the fabric manufacturers.
Q: What about the content on your blogs?
A: All content is original unless otherwise cited to other sources. The goal of the blogs are to provide our customers with inspiration, both developed by us and what we find in our own quest, ideas, tips, tricks and other resources.

A: If the products we mention are linked to Amazon, we do participate in the Amazon Associates program, which means if you purchase an item from the link we provided, we will get an affiliate reward, which definitely helps augment the administrative costs of running our online store. If they’re not linked to Amazon, we’re simply providing the best information we can with respect to availability and where to buy.
Handmade Goods - Bread & Salt and custom orders
Q. What is Bread & Salt about?
A. Inspired by the Eastern European tradition of offering new neighbors bread and salt as a way to welcome them, Bread & Salt products are created for you to bestow a similar act of kindness. Bread & Salt goods are gifts for you, new mamas, little ones, and entertainers. Made by hand and with the finest of materials, Bread & Salt are created with a balance of fun, functionality and beauty.
Q. Are all items you offer by custom order listed on the site?
A. We hope we’ve offered a comprehensive list of the items Drygoods Design can make by custom order, but where there’s a will there’s a way so if there’s something you want, email us, please let us know!
Q. I’ve decided that I want to purchase a custom order but how do I ensure the fabric I want is available?
A. Please email us! We can reserve the fabric and let you know if it’s available or not for the quantity needed for your order. Also, if you email us we can give you a good idea of production times before you hit checkout.
Q. I want to purchase a custom order, however I don’t see a fabric that will work for it on your site, can I still have it made?
A. Of course you can still order it! If there’s not a fabric we have that you like for the particular order, then we’ll find one that will, even if we don’t carry it at the present time.
Q. Are the products for sale on drygoodsdesignonline.com by Bread & Salt the same as those offered on your Etsy site?
A. Some are the exact same and others are different, however they’re all handmade Bread & Salt products. Please check the site often to see what’s new in stock!
Q. Do you carry other products?
A. Yes! As the site and customer base grows, I will be adding a few other lines of handmade goods that are hard-to-find as well as a small selection of party goods! You can get a party in a box, by way of us making it or you!
Shipping
Q. I just made my order, how long before it ships?
A: We make every effort to ship your order the same business day and no more than two business days after you order. You’ll receive an email to let you know it’s shipped too!
Q: Which shipping carriers do you use?
A: We currently ship with the US Postal Service (USPS) and UPS.
Q: I need the fabric I ordered yesterday practically, ground service won’t do, can you expedite shipping?
A: Yes! We’re happy to expedite shipping at an additional cost. Please select the express shipping option at checkout.
Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes, we love spreading the Drygoods Design love across the globe! USPS International Flat Rate is the service we've chosen based on cost and speed. While there's no tracking for orders of four pounds or less, it is the most affordable ($11.95 for Canada and $14.95 for the rest of the world). About 8 yards of quilting cotton or less equals four pounds. For orders that weight more than four pounds it is $30 and have tracking ($40 at retail from USPS so you save $15). Due to a recent increase in domestic and international shipping rates from the US Postal Service on January 22, 2012, Drygoods Design adjusted rates accordingly while still maintaining a discounted shipping experience for both domestic and international customers. Apologies for any inconvenience this might cause. We do remain committed to offering at least a $2 discount on the full international rates from the USPS for orders under four pounds.
Q: I don't live in the U.S. but I'd like to ship my purchase to a US address to save on shipping. Can I do that?
A: As long as you can wait to get your order when you visit or have your friend bring it to you, then yes, you can. Enter your billing information as usual and send me your shipping address via email. I will only capture the US shipping amount not the international amount. We do this often with our international customers who travel to the US and it seems to work well!
Q: I want to enter a different shipping and billing address but I can't seem to do that - what should I do?
A: Because Shopify can only send one address to PayPal, it can't take two different addresses. However, because PayPal already has your billing address associated with your account, you can enter your shipping address into our site. For international customers, please see above.
Q: I live in Seattle or am willing to drive to Ballard to pick-up my order. Can I do that?
A: Yes! If you’re willing and able to drive to Ballard Avenue in Seattle, then yes, we’d love for you to pick up here. Just select “Pick up in Ballard” as your shipping option and we’ll let you know when your order is ready. If you have a specific date you need it by, please email us with your order number or make note in the comments section of your order. I can also deliver your order to you - either same day or next day depending on what works best.
Policies
Q. What is your return policy?
A. With yardage of two yards or less, we do not accept returns unless the mistake is Drygoods Design (i.e. you ordered blue and we send green). If the yardage is more than two continuous yards, we will accept the return with a 20% restocking fee. If there is a mistake on our part, please email us within 10 business days and we will send you a prepaid shipping label to send it back to us so we can send you the correct item.
Q. What about your return policy for Bread & Salt items and custom orders?
A. I want to do what I can to ensure happy customers. However, custom orders are not eligible for refunds but maybe eligible for an exchange after a 20% restocking fee and confirmation of no damage or use.
All non-custom orders are eligible for refunds and exchanges as long as they are in selling shape (no wear and tear, use or other damage).
Q. What is your fulfillment and shipping policy?
A. All orders are fulfilled on site and by hand within 1 to 3 business days. We ship with both UPS and USPS, depending on the destination, weight and cost. We provide a tracking number whenever possible and accept no responsibility for the delivered condition of the item. However, if a package arrives damaged we will do what we can to resolve the issue.
Q. What is your privacy policy?
A. We take your privacy and protection of your information very seriously. At no time is your information shared with any third-party. We use it to keep you informed about Drygoods Design news, sales and other promotional items, with the goal to provide the best possible service. Your credit card information is not stored on our site or records past time of purchase. With the use of an account, that's at your discretion, you can store your shipping information for ease of use on future purchases.
